Sidekick without sidekick plan

Ok I'm thinking about getting the 2008 sidekick but without the sidekick internet thing, i realize that my contacts name wont show up in my text message, but I've read that without it you cannot keep a phonebook, the SK wont keep logs of calls, texts, etc.? Could any of you who don't have that clarify? Do you find this valuable?

i can tell you about the sidekick 08 im not sure bout the new 1 bcuz of the 3g coverage on it but all you need 4 the 08 is a sd card with at least 2 gb of memory to store pictures and videos and things like that and 4 your contact jus save them all 2 your sim card and you will be jus fine
i have the 08 without a sk plan and it work perfect without it so any questions please let me know 1  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

It'll keep them, but if you lose power, it'll all go bye-bye forever. The exceptions are anything saved to your memory card or SIM card.

You also won't have picture messages, web browsing, e-mail, or IM. 1  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

I've seen the SD Card for sale at the T-Mobile shop, where is the card inserted on the phone? Do you find this valuable?

AI had to downgrade from the Plan on my sidekick. It does work ok, but if it shuts off you have to reset all your settings (which is a pita, because you have to remember where all your settings were. IE to save txt msgs, upload contacts, and I cant even make my ringtones work on specific people.) Personally I recommend the plan, but thats just me.

The SD card is located on the edge of the phone when you pull the back off, on the left (speaker) side of the phone.

 Do you find this valuable?

if i manually turn my phone will it get erased? Do you find this valuable?

If you power the phone off manually, with the power button, and don't remove the battery, everything should stay. But if power is cut completely, kaboom. Do you find this valuable?

nope, if it shuts off due to low battery, if you power it off, or if you pull the battery out, pretty much everything gets erased and you have to reload it all again. not the sim card tho, so save as much to the sim and SD cards as possible 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

i don't have the sidekick plan and i don't see the names of my contacts in my text messages. Also, there is no sign in option in my menu, and i can't see the catalog. Can anyone help me with this? 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

You obviously don't have the data plan, so like almost everything else on the SideKick, you cannot access the catalog unless you have a T-Mobile SideKick data plan, I think this has been mentioned somewhere.... and are those people who the messages are from, are they in your contact list? Do you find this valuable?

I wouldn't know, I don't have the data plan, but my messages always come up with the contact names, strange, maybe justarep can help Do you find this valuable?

Without the plan, you won't be able to get into the catalog, since it requires a data connection.

Also, it's a known issue that if you don't have a data plan, incoming text messages may not display the name of the contact for contacts. Do you find this valuable?

my sister also does not have the data plan, but is able to sign in and incoming text messages display the names of contacts. Do you find this valuable?

As is said numerous times, there is no workaround, besides having a T-Mobile SideKick data plan, which I now have Do you find this valuable?

before i took my battery out without turning the phone off my contacts showed up,i got alerts when i received texts but now it doesnt do it anymore..every since i did that...? Do you find this valuable?
