Sidekick 08 problem PLEASE GIVE ADVICE!!

When you unlock the phone, the 3 digit combination part, sometimes the keyboard doesnt function, so i have to use the track ball, but in that situation, the keyboard works after i pass the 3 digit combination. Do you know why it sometimes doesnt function? Do you find this valuable?
