Fix for ppl without a data plan using sidekicks??

Hey guys Tmobile is giving me a free sidekick 08 in exchange for my tmobile shadow (1st generation), without any contract extension. I am not on any contract right now and I have tried everything in my power to get the lowest prices on everything, and get as many months of free data as possible. They couldnt give me a discount rate, and gave me 2 free months of unlimited data.. after that I still have to pay $25/month, which I'm not planning on doing.

So, for all those people using sidekicks without data plans... what do you do? Is it very hard to use? I.e. when u take out the battery, everything is deleted on the phone and the sidekick tries to connect to danger's servers to re-sync all the information back onto it...but without data, u can't do that. Is there any fix for this? Please reply, thanks

The fix for that is to have the Sidekick data plan. Asking if there's any way to back up your data without having the Sidekick data plan is like asking if there's a way to drive your car when there are no tires on it. You need one for the other to work. Do you find this valuable?

I never asked if there's an alternative method for backing up the sidekick's data. I asked what others in my situation do with their sidekicks. The data is a useless feature for me because all I will be doing is texting and calling on this sidekick. It's such a bad move that Danger made the operating system this way, because it lost them so many sales from people that DON'T want to pay an overpriced $25/mo data plan.

If all I'll be doing is texting and calling, why would I need a data plan? I mean come on. I hope they change their operating system in the future to suit people like me.

Some other dumb things about the phone is that besides texting and calling, just about everything else requires data (from my understanding). This includes AIM, and even MMS. My current phone, the T-Mobile Shadow, does those two perfectly fine WITHOUT a data plan.

So, is there anyone else in my situation? Does anyone else have a sidekick with JUST texting, no data? What do you guys do?

Well, to be fair, it's built to use the plan, since everything relies on it. That's unlikely to change, but I can't speak for Danger. Alternatives like the Gravity have come out to more or less fill the need you're pointing out--skipping the data plan. Do you find this valuable?
