question about tmail

i just got a sidekick slide and tried using the tmail. I dont have data services. I sent a message to my gmail account to see if it worked but it didnt. then I did some searching and found out my phone number is my tmail account so i sent a email from my gmail to my phone number@@tmomail.net and it worked but instead of it coming up under the email tab in tmail it came as a text message. I could only reply in text message. also it didnt have my gmail account name as the send just some numbers. also my tmail on the sidekick says my tmail email address is ZGTH. thats it. is this how it is supposed to work? or am I doing something wrong. thanks for the help.

If you don't have the data plan, you don't have a tmail.com account. ##########@tmomail.net is a mail-to-text gateway that works with any phone, and it's not at all similar to tmail
