Sidekick Will Only Charge When Phone Is Off

It appears my battery will only charge if the phone is off. Is this regular for all sidekick slides? I just recently aqcuired mine from a friend so I am new to the phone. I charged it last night (with it off) for 11 hours and it only had two bars when I turned it on this morning. Those two bars only last about 3/4 of the day. No bueno.

Does this mean I should go ahead and buy a new battery? Does it mean something is wrong if it is not charging when I have it plugged in while the phone is on. Please some help!!!! 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?
