Okay lets start from the begining.

1. "Its a bulky Phone"

It is not to big compared ti the first sidekick., and not very larger than than the LX.

2. Why would you want it? (android)
Android can do everything the sidekick can do, plus more! Plus it has a dedicated qwerty keyboard.
Android is completely open source, which means you can do anything you want to it, and download other peoples applications etc.
I love my sidekick. but know it is becoming a stone age unit. T-mo and danger need to bring it up to speed.

Did you know you can use the camera on the google phone to scan a products upc code, and it tells you the stores that carry that product, and for how much?

That is unbelievable. Not even iPhone can do that.

3. "What is it with me and the kiddies"
I have had a sidekick for many years. When they were not cool, because it was exactly what I needed, fast text messaging, decent browser, flawless operating system.
For the past 1 to 2 years the sidekick has been marketed to children and kids. It makes me want to get rid of it. I'm 29 and people at work tell me their kid has the same phone. 4 to 5 years ago only geeks and "techy" people had sidekicks.

when I got the sidekick 5 years ago I was trying something new, and when I move on to Android, i will be moving on to something newer!

I am a leader, and not a follower. I certainly didn't get a sidekick to be cool, or because a skater, or a basketball star, or a rapper uses the sidekick.

Unlike other people, I like to be unique.

these newbies just got a sidekick... I have had one for over 5 years.. have fun with old technology.

"Where exactly does it say that? I haven't gotten any info about T-mo getting the iPhone anytime soon. Especially since AT&T extended their exclusivity contract.

Plus, the 3G isn't so much better than the 2G(except for the 3G speed that is), so why not just pick up an unlocked 2G?"
http://www.t-mobile.nl/Persoonlijk/htdocs/page/homepage.aspx

T-mo has the iphone 3g already, but only in europe.

Check out their netherlands site below
http://www.t-mobile.nl/Persoonlijk/htdocs/page/homepage.aspx

The AT&T contract with apple pertains to North America only.

My friend used a unlocked i phone on t-mobile.
Everytime he tried to update the thing it would lock again.

Plus he never had full functionality.. App store, itunes etc.

Well, although this is the OFFICIAL SIDEKICK WIKI, I'd like to confirm that VOG is pretty much spot on with the G1. It's quite literally been designed as the iPhone killer. Unlike the App Store, and Apple's crazy BS with non-disclosure agreements for developers (you can't even talk to other developers about coding techniques?), the Android Market is a lot more free. The Android platform is open-source, so anyone can get in there and muck about.

By comparison to both, however, Sidekicks are limited in that respect. Not open-source, have to deal with Danger for development (not necessarily bad, but closer to the Apple way of doing things), and not nearly as expandable.

VoG: I've got an iPhone [on T-mobile] too, App store, iTunes, everything works fine. I mean, you can't really argue with $6 a month unlimited data.

As far as the G1 goes, without Android, it's not much. Like I said(or think I said), I wouldn't jump on the G1. I'd wait for some newer, better Android based phones to release, cause the G1 isn't really all that on it's own. G1 is just the first, there will be more, and much better than that. I just hope it(Android) all works out the way it should, would finally give Apple some competition and make them work a little harder.

And yeah, I still don't see where it says that T-Mobile US is gonna be getting the iPhone anytime soon. AT&T has got it locked for the next couple of years(if not longer), so not for awhile sadly.

i was reading this the other day and it all made sense. VOG is right sidekicks are kiddie phones. i storngly believe tmobiles target for sidekicks are middle school kids. the sidekick clearly isn't worth $400 (which is what you pay for when the LX 1st came out) i could have gotten a better phone for that price. Also when you first get your phone you have to call CC to turn the web guard off because if you try to google anything it blocks it. The android could have easily been the next sidekick. But if they would have madeit the next sidekick they would be targeting the wrong crowd..............just giving an opinion not that it really matters

Thanks for agreeing with me,
Don't get me wrong, I love the sidekick. I've stuck with it for this long because it does everything I need. But they are not improving it at the same rate other phones are improving. I mean Bluetooth was out for how many years before the SK4 had it? and it still is horrible to use.

My point is this, Its time for me to graduate from the SK to something better. with a keyboard, and a nice operating system.

Do you know how bad it kills me, when I'm in a meeting at work, and I am checking my emails, and the guy next to me is like "OH my 10 year old has one of those."

I'm going to test the G1 when it comes out. If it is as quick and nimble as the LX, then i will stick with it.
If it lags like the Tmo wing, or Shadow. then I send it back and wait for the SK 3G coming out next year.

I need a real keyboard, and I need to jump from email, to Aim, to web Quickly... the Iphone is slow, and the touch keyboard only slows me down.

For those of you that have sidekicks, don't take it to heart that I want to get rid of Sidekick's. When you guys get older and get jobs in a corporate setting you will understand me. Everybody in my office has windows phones, and blackberries. They just don't work for me.

I think the G1 will work for me. I will review as soon as I get my hands on one.

@ ninja

you are right about that.

@victims

so how about i got a new contract with tmobile to get that 08 sidekick is messed up i got offered a G1 but idk how that would work out i have to call again today and see whats up with that G1 offer.

with iphone you can scan the upc codes and even other matrix codes i believe there are some apps that are free and some of them you acutally have to pay... thats the only downfall on iphone along with no mms and no video capture..

i really dont know any specs on the g1 i seen that its bulky but i love the keyboard on it tho...

haha and the windows phones and smart phones yeah thats how it is i mean sidekick is nice when you are in highschool you know in the social scene.. but when you are in the office or business time its nice to have a nice smart phone lol.... i like smart phones and i like the sidekick its a nice play phone.

iphone is slow with certain apps beejive lauched their app it its amazing. it does slow down alot there are some apps that you buy and half of the time you cant even run them its sad you spent 2-10 dollars and you cant run that app. i couldnt run super monkey balls i sent my iphone in cause its totally being an ass... and wont launch apps anymore...

^^^^Correction, Jailbroken iPhones do in fact have video capture and MMS. Don't know why Apple doesn't put it in the phone honestly. Especially since it can already frikkin do it.

But I digress. Yeah, I agree with the Sidekick thing too. They haven't advanced much in the years, and they are marketed mostly towards teens.

I just thought you'd find this interesting VoG. A lot of nice stuff about Android Market, but the one thing that sticks out is that Google has confirmed that they also have a killswitch for all apps. 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

That only pertains to anything that goes against the developers agreement.
anything malicious, or violates copyright or trademarks.

If your handy with writing code and script, you can apply for development at http://developer.t-mobile.com/site/global/develop_tools/apps_games/p_platforms.jsp

I like using netbeans. But eclipse runs j2me

I'm working on a cool application along the lines of a mobile bar dictionary.

I have a working title of G-Bar.

It will contain hundreds of drink combinations on your phone, so if you want to make a margarita, fuzzy navel, sex on the beach etc. It will be right at your fingertips, how much vodka with blank amount of juice, etc...

Would you download it?

VOG, I don't know that much about you, but from what I've seen from you on this wiki I totally see you coming up with a bartender's reference database. And I'm fine with that. :D

41. Sidekick ringtones... worth it? Hardly
Dec 14 2008, 2:42 AM EST | Post edited: Dec 14 2008, 2:42 AM EST
The whole point is this: nobody I think would mind buying a ringtone for a fair price, but $2.49? You can buy a the whole song rather than just 17 seconds for $0.99 on pretty much any mp3 related website. On top of that, the selection of songs they provide you sucks in a bad way. I can understand paying, but the product they offer is not worth it in any way shape or form. If you want to argue that it offsets the data plan, well I'm just simply unimpressed with it. For $10 through anybody you can get unlimited texts and the internet on this phone is paltry, it won't even play flash and I haven't found a way to view maps yet either. The plus side is it does allow you to use instant messaging and e-mail pretty nicely, but personally, I could do without those. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
