Sidekick Lesson
May 2 2008, 3:38 PM EDT
Let me School you people in Layman's terms about the ring tone situation.#1. There are 2 types of memory on the SK3, SK4, & Slide. First is the internal memory which is limited, and the removable memory which is basically limited to the size of memory card you buy. #2. The external memory you can access via usb, the internal memory you CANNOT access PERIOD!!!! (except for pictures). THE RINGTONES ARE STORED on the internal memory!!!!! #3. You cannot access the internal memory, unless you are a developer, and/or have the programming access and permission from danger corp. #4. Just like and over the air update. Ringtones are sent to your phone wirelessly, and have special programming code that allows the ringtone to be installed. #5. If you ever hacked into the Sidekick (only by a miracle), Danger servers would get detect the activity and immediately DE-ACTIVATE THE DEVICE. (you are not allowed to tamper with any danger device) If you didn't know already, every piece of information on your internal memory is saved on danger servers. (phonebook, emails, text messaging, ringtones, etc.) Please stop the whole ringtone Bull Sh*t. Be happy you can program themes, etc. Besides, you have a couple bucks to buy a latte' or Redbull, but you can't spend a couple bucks on a ring tone? P.S. T-mo makes MILLIONS of dollars on downloadable content, which offsets the price of unlimited emails, internet, Instant messaging, and texts. Would you rather pay $50 for a DATA plan and have free ringtones. Or pay $20 bucks for a data plan and buy a ring tone once and a while. Please get off the subject now. Thanks, T-MO GURU 220 out of 268 found this valuable. Do you?

WOW YOUR SO DUMB!All sidekicks are powered by danger servers. Danger doesn't make Sidekicks dummy. Sharp does, and now motorolla. It has nothing to do with the manufacturer. ITS THE SOFTWARE AND THE SERVERS THEY RUN ON. The ring tone memory is stored internally and is not accessible to the consumer. It is only ascessible to a danger software developer. Everything on your sidekick (regardless of who makes it) is saved online, in a danger server. Danger created the technology you fool. Everytime yuo shut your phone off it saves every single bit of data on the server. Its DANGER & TMOBILE that restricts the ring tones, not Motorolla Once again, you cannot access the internal ringtone memory! And its better that way. Let t-mobile make the money off of those cheap ringtones instead of making me pay more for my data plan!!!! I have had sidekicks since they were black and white. Before you little kiddies got them for christmas. And if you don't believe me call t-mo and ask for the sidekick department. They can activate and de-activate your phone at the push of a button. 7 out of 10 found this valuable. Do you? |

Dev Kits are free and can be acquired by anyone in a matter of moments. Plus, ringtone sales don't in anyway subsidize data plans. That's marketing bull. The only thing keeping people from having custom ringtones is their own ignorance, and lack of computer skill.

"Dev Kits are free and can be acquired by anyone in a matter of moments. Plus, ringtone sales don't in anyway subsidize data plans. That's marketing bull. The only thing keeping people from having custom ringtones is their own ignorance, and lack of computer skill."I'm actually signed up for the new development program primarily for android. and all content must be tested and certified by True North (not easy) Most of the people complaining about paying for ringtones barely know how to spell, never mind develop content. Now on to revenue. Don't mess with someone who is in the business world. I have stock in T-mobile, and I do get their Annual Report sent to investors. Lets look at 2007 revenue. 4th quarter earnings was $8.8 billion Euros (remember they are a dutch company. can you guess what they made in Data & Mobile content (ringtones, games etc.)? they made over 2 billion euros! That means almost a quarter 25% of the money they made was from data and mobile content! here are the links to a couple of sites. T-mobile makes close to 2 billion on mobile content http://www.moconews.net/entry/419-earnings-t-mobile-revenue-up-86-percent-data-up-42-percent/ 2007 t-mobile annual report http://www.annualreport2007.telekom.de/en/ka/konzernanhang/sonstige_angaben/index.php?page=180 Developers story http://www.businessweek.com/the_thread/techbeat/archives/2008/09/t-mobile_usa_pr.html Developers Site. http://developer.t-mobile.com/site/global/home/p_home.jsp 0 out of 1 found this valuable. I'm always checking out their Netherlands site. I'm so jealous that they have the Iphone 3G on tmobile. Not to mention all the coolest smart phones Check their site. Eventually the iphone will be available to T-Mobile USA. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I'm always checking out their Netherlands site.Where exactly does it say that? I haven't gotten any info about T-mo getting the iPhone anytime soon. Especially since AT&T extended their exclusivity contract. Plus, the 3G isn't so much better than the 2G(except for the 3G speed that is), so why not just pick up an unlocked 2G? 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"No way.. I'm on way to testing android.. too many kiddies with sidekicks.. "I agree. Android's nice. I'd wait for a newer Android phone though, the G1 is merely a sign of what's to come. Much better than most, but not quite an iPhone or N96 ya know? 0 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
