good news for you bud, You said you can't stand the prices, and the main stream music. The catalog has been updated with ringtones for $1.50 each, many of them are unheard of groups/bands. enjoy.

Also, there is an app that streams music and syncs your itunes to your Sidekick its call nuTsie.. get it iTunes nuTsie....

Sure, it sounds nice in theory to pay little of nothing for any ringtone that you want with no hassel. But the ringtones in the catalog are like 5 seconds long! Who wants to pay close to $3 for a ringtone that doesnt play the part of the song you want when they could easily personalize there own ringtone for free? You have to admit that you would choose free over pay any day... 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

You know, it would be a good idea if you were able to at least pick the 15 seconds of the song you wanted as your ringtone. I mean you're paying for it, so why not give the consumer some power.

Victimsofgravity

Thanks for the info. My wife has a Slide and I've been going crazy in trying to figure out why I couldn't access the 2gb microsd card I gave her. I'm a WinMo freak for the last 4 years and I can do anything and everything to my phone. Strange how everyone says Apple and now Google (Android) are so fresh, innovative and new, yet they are nearly totalitarianwith their OS's and allow very little outside/unregulated development while Microsoft only limits outside development when it becomes a bad thing for the carriers.

I guess I can get rid of the ringtones I MADE FOR HER ON MY 8525 FOR FREE. I'm just amazed at the lack of ability this damn Sidekick Slide has. Paying for ringtones combined with the constant blackouts and demand for a data package she doesn't need is making me wish my 8125 hadn't died. I could have just flashed a new rom (OS) on it and gave her that phone. Looks like I need to get her a different phone with a camera, physical keyboard and texting ability after all.

Once again thanks for the heads up on the ringtone situation and if you ever decide to switch to Windows Mobile check out xdadevelopers.com. You would love the community and the amount of great things that we accomplish.

the new windows mobile 6.5 is not bad, but once u start running multiple applications, it lags like my 14kbps modem in 1994.
The whole thing that separates the SK platform from all the others is its back-end that is powered by danger servers. Everything you do is backed up and saved, from phone numbers to pictures, calenders and notes. Email is the fastest and truest Push email on the market. (I have tested against iphone, and blackberry, and MS exchange)
The problem is that the technology of modern cell phones is advancing so fast, that the SK hardware seems near extinct.
Check out Danger.com website and read up on their corporate goals, and plans. Its all about servicing the back end. That is why you need data for the SK, that is why we pay for everything, that is why the OS is locked down. This back end does not operate on its own, it doesn't pay for itself.

But have no fear, I'm positive that with the change of powers through the acquisition of danger by Microsoft, that it will be Gates' attempt at conquering the cell market. A new Sidekick will emerge!!!

Grav, you bring up an interesting point about Microsoft's acquisition of Danger. I don't think there'll be a ton of changes to Danger due to this--at least not right away, and somewhat in line with the evolution of the Danger OS (which has been slow so far, honestly). I think it's more that Microsoft wanted to find a way to improve WM since it's been losing ground in the smartphone market and meanwhile Sidekicks always sell well. The Danger OS has some good points, especially on the back end integration, and it's something WM can really, really use to get back in the game.

Now if only that f'ing rumor that says T-Mobile is getting rid of all Sidekicks by (now + 2 months from now) and shutting down the Danger servers would die and stop misleading worried customers who just got two-year contracts on their brand new Sidekick, I'd be happy. Especially hearing-impaired SK users. Some of them were terrified with worry that they'd just gotten screwed and I had to talk them down from the edge of the roof, practically. That's just cruel.

No way dude, they would never shut down this money maker without a well formed exit strategy. Besides, it's bringing in so much capital.
I have been hearing that rumor since the acquisition.

You know whats really crazy, is the picture of the new SK 2009 that someone sent me, with a marketing spec sheet.

I don't know if its for real, but I do know some of the applications spoken about in the spec sheet DO infact exist, twitter app has already been made but has not hit the catalog yet, I have seen this app.

As for microsoft exchange, 3g, and gps, I just can't imagine hardware engineers marrying that technology on the SK platform. but what do I know, I'm not a hardware engineer.

For those that are curious I posted this new sidekick pic here.

Calm down, man. Trying to make others feel stupid does NOT make you smarter. Thank you for the run-down of mechanical explanations, and please forgive those of us who've not had the privilege of extensive Sidekick knowledge. It's better to ask a question and get "no" as an answer than not ask at all. Free sh-t is great! 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Open your memory card via USB. Drag and drop music. I believe music purchased by iTunes cannot be moved or copied. But I don't know cuz I hate iTunes. Maybeb u should buy music off of amazon. I myself like CDs because I like something physical in exchange for my cash. And it always nice to have the booklets. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

i just think its crazy we pay 2.50 for ringtones that are sooooooo short. they should have alllllll ringtones for at least 1.50 each or lower due to the fact that there only seconds long, THAT'S JUST MY OWN OPINION SO I THINK THAT THE PEOPLE THAT ARE LOOKING FOR A WAY FOR FREE RINGTONE'S GO AHEAD THERE MAY NEVER BE A WAY BUT KEEP GOING, I WONT GET MAD OR PIST OFF AT YOU GUYS FOR AT LEAST TRYING, AS FOR THAT WHOLE THEY WILL SHUT DOWN YOUR DEVICE THING I DONT BELIEVE THAT CUZ I KNO LIKE 2 PEOPLE THAT HAVE SIDEKICKS AND HACKED INTO IT AND GET FREE RINGTONES, THEMES AND OTHER THINGS AND T-MOBILE HAVEN'T DEACTIVATE IT THEY STILL RUN ON T-MOBILE TOWERS AND GET ALL BARS, SEND, RECEIVE TEXTS AND CALLS ALSO WEB. I wont do that cuz iam scared if it would cause any damages in the phone. all that i said is true i swear to GOD !!!!! that its true, and the caps isn't cuz im yelling just want people to read it carefully. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. The best u can do is create your own theme with custom music.

As for the person above, it is physically impossible for your friend to hack a sidekick. You need a developers key to access that part of the device. Danger monitors anyone and everyone that has access.they actually have a list of all imei numbers that have access, it is physically impossible to hack a sidekick, you have a better chance of playing a DVD in a VCR player.

And for your friend getting a dev key, they would have to write a java app that could be sold in the catalog and even then it's tough
, They no longer give out keys like they use to, because everything can be done on the simulator. Your friend has a better c
