Heres how you get the symbols...

Step 1. First you will need to highlight the symbols...press and hold down SHIFT and then press an arrow on the DPAD or roll your trackball in the direction you would like to highlight.
(Everything thats highlighted will have a black background and the text will turn white)

Step 2. Now you need to COPY what you've highlighted...press MENU and the letter C together. (Just like Control + C lets you "copy" on your computer)

Step 3. Now you need to find a place to paste and save them! The best place to save them is in your NOTES, so you can add each individual symbol you want. Open a new note and press MENU and the letter V together to paste your symbols.

Step 4. From the jump screen, press MENU > SETTINGS > AUTOTEXT

Step 5. Once inside your auto text, press MENU then select NEW RULE

Step 6. Now in the second box (closest to your right hand), copy (Menu + C) and paste (Menu + V) your desired symbol.

Step 7. Now in the first box, type the abbreviation you would like to use for that symbol. For example, I placed a black star in the right box and the letters "bs" (for "black star") in the left box; so whenever I type those letters and then the space bar, my black star appears!

You might want to open a new note or text message and try it out.

Use these easy steps for saving and using ANY cool symbols you find!

How to Create Your Own Background Theme

1. Plug your USB cable into your computer and Sidekick
2. On the computer browse to the Sidekick drive folders

open "My Computer" then select the Sidekick's drive

3. You will see two folders listed, make a new folder here, name it "themes" (without the quotes)
4. Open that "Themes" folder
5. In that folder make another new folder with your new theme name.

this is the name you want to appear on the Sidekick backgrounds menu

6. Open Windows Notepad and paste the following text into it

string Name(en_US) themename
bitmap ring-background ring-background.png
bitmap ring-folder-background ring-folder-background.png

Or you can use a pre-generated template from here.

7. Save this .txt file to your newly named folder as "theme.txt"

there are more things that can be added and modified, this is a simple start. You can find an entire theme.txt template for every sidekick model here.

8. Save the picture you want as the main background in this folder. (ring-background)

make sure the name of the file should match the Notepad text file string and should be in PNG or JPG format

sizing for backgrounds is commonly listed as 240x138 pixels, otherwise image may appear stretched. An entire list of assets and sizes can be found here

9. Add the second picture you want for the sub category background. (ring-folder-background)

this is the same size as the main background file.

10. The picture file names must match the text file exactly, I sometimes save in jpg format but still leave the .png in the text line and the background will not load.
11. Close the files, unplug your USB cable from the device.
12. On your Sidekick select Menu/Settings/Backgrounds and your new theme name should be listed below the original four. This is the name you set as the folder and in the text file.
13. Select the new theme and it applies.

How to Add Background Themes

Here's my guide for adding background themes for your SideKick3.

You may want to start by watching the video explaining and showing the steps taken to downloading or uploading a sidekick them. Click here to watch the video.

1. Plug your USB cable into your computer and SideKick3
2. On the cccxcc,xzcxz,cbrowse to the SideKick3 drive folders
a)My way is to select and open "My Computer" then select the SideKick3
3. You will see two folders listed, make a new folder here, name it "themes" (without the quotes)
4. Open that "Themes" folder.

a) This is the name you want to appear on the SideKick3 Backgrounds menu.

11. Close the files, unplug your USB cable from the device.
12 . On your SideKick select Menu/Settings/Backgrounds and your new theme name should be listed below the original four. This is the name you set as the folder and in the text file.
a) Select the new theme and it applies.

To open the media player application, first press JUMP then roll the TRACKBALL until you highlight the SonicBOOM media player icon in the left-hand "ring" of applications. The SonicBOOM media player "splash" screen will appear on the right. If you dont have this well i dont know what to tell you.

How to access the calendar splash screen

This page describes how to access the calendar splash screen.

To open the Calendar application, first press JUMP then roll the TRACKBALL until you highlight the Planning icon in the left-hand "ring" of applications. Press or roll the TRACKBALL right to open the second-level ring of applications, then highlight Calendar. The Calendar "splash" screen will appear on the right:

The splash screen shows the events you've scheduled for the current day, with the event coming up soonest at the top of the of research papers list.

The Beginning: The Black & White Sidekick from T-Mobile

Features:

A monochrome 2.6-inch screen swivels up to showcase a full QWERTY keyboard specifically targeting frequent users of e-mail and instant messaging.
Sidekick users can send and receive email and attachments from up to three POP3 email accounts, surf the Web with a full HTML An attachable camera is available as a separate purchase.

Milestones:

The T-Mobile Sidekick, the first all-in-one wireless device for consumers, is awarded Best of Show winner in the Hand held and Mobile Wireless category at the 2002 Consumer Electronics Show.
Customers use instant messaging more than any other application, including voice, on a T-Mobile device for the first time.
The Sidekick's gains acceptance in the hip-hop community after appearing as a prop in some of hottest rap videos. The most notable being when Jay-Z featured it in his video "Excuse Me Miss":

At the time, the Motorola two-way pager, which allowed text messages to be sent back and forth, was big in the music community. The Sidekick improves on the pager by also providing phone and Internet service. In the video, Jay-Z raps: "He 2 ways her, so she writes back." On screen, the image is of a Sidekick. A 65K color screen, more memory and a faster processor than the monochrome original.

Milestones:

A Social Lifeline: The T-Mobile Sidekick 3

Feature improvements:

With a 20% slimmer exterior, the Sidekick 3 can easily slide into a pocket or purse.

OCTOBER 2006

T-Mobile announces two new limited edition Sidekick 3s. Black and pink Diane Von Furstenberg edition, and green Lifted Research Group edition.

FEBRUARY 2007

T-Mobile Released the Limited Edition, D-Wade, Gold and White Sidekick 3. With the number 3 colored gold, in acknowledgement to D-Wade's jersey number. The back cover of the phone, is gold and has the exact texture of a basketball.

APRIL 2007

T-Mobile releases the Sidekick iD in stores. It is a smaller version of the sidekick, same applications and application designs as the Sidekick 3, but missing a Camera, Music Player, and Bluetooth. It is fully customizable with the options to change the bumpers and back cover. Selling price with 2-Year Contract is $99. BUT FOR A LIMITED TIME IT IS $49.99. STARTING SEPTEMBER!
With the many features including the usual IM, Email, Text, and Internet Browser. But a few changes are the photo application is now called Photo Album and you can email and save photos from emails to it. And in the past generation, the game the phone came with was always Rock & Rocket, this device comes with its starter game, called Pumpjack.

October 2007

The rumour had been broken and finally, the most anticipated Sidekick named, LX has been released on October 24, 2007. The Sidekick LX is even slimmer then the Sidekick 3 and now has a High Definition Screen and a bigger keyboard. The LX comes in two colors: Midnight Blue and Espresso Brown.

The Brand-New Sidekick Slide:

This is the first Sidekick with instead of the traditional Swivel Screen, it has a screen the slides up.

Jump Shortcuts

You can always press JUMP to return to the Jump screen, where you can then select one of the applications from the ring. However, if you want to jump to a specific application quickly, you can set a shortcut key. Your device comes with a default set of shortcut keys, but you can change them, as described below.

To open the Jump Shortcuts screen, from the Jump screen, press MENU then select Settings > Jump Shortcuts.

Change Default Shortcuts

Scroll to highlight the application for which you want to change a Jump shortcut, then press the TRACKBALL. The Key Mapping dialog box appears. In the illustration below, Address Book was highlighted when the Key Assignment dialog box opened:
Press the key you want to use to jump to the application you've highlighted. The Key Mapping dialog box disappears and your shortcut is saved.
Now, to use a Jump Shortcut from any screen at any time, press JUMP plus the shortcut key to open that application.
To delete a shortcut key mapping, roll the TRACKBALL to highlight the application name, then press the DEL key.
