    Wireless Options - sidekick 2 - Sidekick
  2. In the Wireless group box, use the option buttons to turn your wireless connection on/off. This is how you turn off your wireless connection while on a plane or in a hospital, or anywhere where wireless connectivity may interfere with the environment.
  3. To allow data roaming, in the Roaming group box, select the Allow GPRS Data Roaming check box; clear the check box to prevent data roaming. Be aware that even if you have data roaming turned on (box is checked), your wireless operator may have disabled roaming for the SIM cards they distribute. Note! When roaming outside your home network, you may incur additional charges for data transfer with or without taking any actions, such as receiving email messages. To avoid additional charges while roaming, clear the Allow GPRS Data Roaming check box. If you do roam with GPRS Data Roaming not allowed, you will still be able to make and receive phone calls.
  4. Once you've made your wireless option choices, select Done Wireless Options - sidekick 2 - Sidekick to dismiss the dialog box and save any changes you've made.
Connectivity Tips
  • Connection to the service. You know that you're connected to the data service and "online" when you see the Wireless Options - sidekick 2 - Sidekick in the title bar, next to the radio tower icon: Wireless Options - sidekick 2 - Sidekick .
  • Roaming. You will not be told explicitly if you start roaming on a network that is not part of your wireless operator's network. Remember that you could incur extra charges when roaming. You can set your device to allow or disallow roaming. First press Jump Wireless Options - sidekick 2 - Sidekick then press Menu Wireless Options - sidekick 2 - Sidekick and select Controls > Wireless to open the Wireless Options screen. Prevent roaming by clearing the Allow GPRS Data Roaming check box. Once you've prevented data roaming, you will see DATA OFF flashing in the title bar if you go outside your wireless operator's network. Note also that preventing data roaming will not affect phone connectivity; you will still be able to use the phone even if DATA OFF is flashing in the title bar. To allow data roaming, simply select the Allow GPRS Data Roaming check box.
  • Signal Strength. To see the signal strength of your network connection, look in the title bar of your device to the right of the radio tower icon. You'll see up to four signal strength bars: Wireless Options - sidekick 2 - Sidekick . The more signal bars showing, the stronger the signal strength of the wireless connection at your current location. In this example, the signal strength is at its weakest, though still connected: Wireless Options - sidekick 2 - Sidekick .
