the phone is actually made to do taht, (for secruity purposes if your phone was trying to be used by some1 else so that they dont have your info) so if you were to remove your battery (for whatver reason) everything on the phone will erase. if you have the sidekick data plan the information will come to the device (as long as you have 'G' on the device). the process to get small info back i.e. contacts, myfav contacts (and UI) email, notes, todos, calander event etc... usually appear within 10 mins but anything downloaded will come in usually 2 hrs onc data service has been fully restored
