How do I know when I have received an Over-the-Air update?
When the update has completely downloaded to your device, this dialog box will appear:

If you select Update Now, your device will install the update and restart. Before the installation begins, read the instructions that appear on your screen:

What happens if I select "Update Now"?
When you select Update Now, the device takes the new software it has received over the air and writes it to the flash memory. Flash is the persistent memory that is not lost in the event the battery dies. Note: Don't select this option if you are in the middle of an IM conversation, are writing an email, or entering data. In these cases you'll want to update In a Few Minutes, after you've finished your conversation, saved/sent your email, or have made sure any data you were entering has been saved to the service. When the update is writing to the flash memory, a progress bar appears on the screen:

It takes about five minutes to finish and restart; after which you will see the Update Complete! confirmation dialog box. Select OK to proceed.


Why might I want to update "In a Few Minutes"?
To update, the device moves the new software into flash memory and restarts. If you are in the middle of an IM conversation or are writing an email, you might not want your device to restart, as your unsaved data will be lost. If you select In a Few Minutes, it gives you time to finish you conversation, send your message, or save it as a draft before the system restarts.

When will I get the update notice again, if I select "In a Few Minutes"?
When you select In a Few Minutes, the dialog box will reappear the next time you come back/go to the Jump screen and two minutes have passed. The idea is, if you are in an application (not the Jump screen), you might be editing some unsaved data, writing an email, adding a task, and so on.
When will I get the update notice again if I choose "Remind Me Tomorrow"?
You will see it again in 24 hours.

If I select "Update Now", what will happen? Will I lose all my data?
Your data is safe throughout the update process. However, if you were entering data and were not connected to the service when you selected Update Now, then your unsaved data will be lost.

What happens if I soft reboot the device while the update is installing?
The soft reset functionality is disabled during this step since a reset during a "write to flash" can corrupt the memory and cause your device to stop working.

What happens if I remove the battery while the update is installing?
It is possible to corrupt the memory of the device if you remove the battery during a "write to flash". If this occurs, the device will end up in recovery mode and the "Sorry" screen will appear on your device.
If this occurs you will need to call your operator's Customer Care number for assistance.


Does the battery on my device have to be at a certain level before I can start the update?
If your battery level is below 20% when the update is downloaded to your device, you will receive a warning that you need to connect your charger to your device in order to complete the update.

I received an error message saying that my battery level was too low. What should I do?
Connect your device to the battery charger to complete the update.

I am not near a charger, what can I do?
Just select OK in the dialog box and connect your device to the charger when you can. The update will occur when you have enough charge to trigger it.

My friend received his update but I haven't received mine. Why not?
Updates are metered through our system to prevent overload to the wireless network and our upgrade servers. Don't worry; you will soon get it.
