You can select if and how your device notifies you when a new email message has arrived. If you select a New Message Alert Ring (explained below), you will receive a balloon and icon notification in the title bar and a ringtone will play when you receive a new message. You'll receive these notifications no matter what screen you're viewing or application you're in (except no balloon notifications will appear while you're playing games).

If you receive email from more than one account on your device, you can turn off notifications on an account-basis. To turn on new message notification and to select a ringtone, do the following while in the Email application:

1. From the Browse Email screen, press MENU then select Settings > General. The General Settings screen appears.
   
   
2. Look for the group box titled New Message Alert Ring and the ringtone pop-up menu.
   
   
3. If you want to change the default ringtone, select a notification "category" from the pop-up menu, then roll the
   TRACKBALL right to open the submenu of "songs".
   
   You will hear a preview of the song as you highlight it. Press the TRACKBALL to select the song. If supported by your wireless operator, you can also Record New Ringtone by selecting that option.
   
   
4. Press DONE when you're finished with your settings. If you don't want to save the changes, press CANCEL .
