Key guard is a feature that allows you to protect the device's control buttons from being pressed accidentally while your device is in your pocket or bag.

To open the Key Guard & Security screen, from the Jump screen, press MENU Key Guard & Security  - Sidekick then select Settings > Key Guard & Security.

Tip: To turn on the backlight while in key guard, press the RIGHT SHOULDER Key Guard & Security  - Sidekick button.

Set a Key Guard Image

If supported by your wireless operator, you can use one of your photos as the key guard image. Press the TRACKBALL with the Select Image button highlighted to go to your Browse Photo Albums screen. From there you can select a photo to use as your key guard image.

Enter Key Guard Mode Manually

You can turn on key guard manually in two ways:


  • Press and hold DONE Key Guard & Security  - Sidekick for two seconds.
  • Press JUMP Key Guard & Security  - Sidekick to return to the Jump screen, then press MENU Key Guard & Security  - Sidekick and select Key Guard.

Enter Key Guard Mode Automatically You can set key guard to turn on automatically by doing the following from the Key Guard & Security screen:


  1. In the Key Guard group box, roll the TRACKBALL down to highlight the Guard pop-up menu.
  2. Press the TRACKBALL to open the pop-up menu and reveal all the choices:
  • Guard after 1 minute
  • Guard after 2 minutes
  • Guard after 5 minutes
  • Guard after 15 minutes
  • Guard after 30 minutes
  • Guard after 1 hour
  • Guard after 2 hours
  1. Roll the TRACKBALL to highlight the option you want, then press to select it.
  2. Press DONE Key Guard & Security  - Sidekick to save your setting.
