To set this, from the Buddy List screen, press MENU and select Settings > Advanced.

Select this check box if you don't want to end conversations by accidentally pressing the CANCEL button twice. Instead, you must close conversations by pressing MENU and selecting End Conversation, or by pressing MENU + . (period).
