Requiring Authentication

By default, Bluetooth communication is not authenticated, and any device can communicate to any other device. You can choose to require authentication. This adds a level of security to your device. If the device requires authentication, you will need to provide the other device with a Personal Identification Number (PIN) code before you can communicate with it. PIN codes are an ASCII string up to 16 characters in length.

To require authentication, perform the following steps:

1. At Jump screen, press the Menu key.

2. Scroll to and select Bluetooth, and then select My Device. The My Device dialog box opens.

3. Scroll to and select Require authentication. This will provide the maximum privacy and security for your device.

4. If other devices require you type a PIN code, you can select to have your device automatically try two common PIN codes (0000 and 1234) before asking you to type a PIN code manually. If you want this option, select AutoTry authentication PIN.

NOTE: If you are using your device with a hands-free Bluetooth car kit, the Bluetooth car kit may unpair if the first PIN code attempt fails. If you have trouble pairing, clear this option.

5. Select Done.

Pairing with Other Devices

NOTE: Before your device can communicate with another Bluetooth device, the two devices must pair. To pair your device with another Bluetooth device, make sure you first turn on the Bluetooth features. For more information, go to Turning on Bluetooth features.

To pair with other devices, perform the following steps:

1. At Jump screen, press the Menu key.

2. Scroll to and select Bluetooth, and then select Pairing.

3. The Pairing dialog box opens. The dialog box lists all available Bluetooth devices.

4. To pair with one of the devices, scroll to and select the device name.

5. If either device requires authentication, an Authentication dialog box appears.

NOTE: You will have to coordinate with the other customer, the owner's manual, or the interface to match the PIN codes. Both devices must have the same PIN code. Sometimes a PIN code is predefined by a device (you can verify this in the owner's manual), but often the two devices must use a PIN code that is created for the pairing event. PIN codes should be anywhere from eight to 16 characters in length and use both letters and numbers.

6. Once paired, the device name appears in bold with a Key Bluetooth - Sidekickicon to the left.
