Battery & Display-Sidekick iDThis is a featured page

You can see how charged your battery is by checking the Battery & Display screen. You'll also be able to set how long backlighting stays on after you press one of the control buttons or keyboard keys, or set it so that the backlight only turns on when needed (saving battery). From this screen you can also adjust the brightness of your display.

To open the Battery & Display screen, from the Jump screen, press MENU Battery & Display-Sidekick iD - Sidekick then select Settings > Battery & Display.
Battery & Display-Sidekick iD - Sidekick

  1. In the first group box, Battery, you can observe the percentage of charge remaining in your battery (this number is approximate). If your battery is connected to the wall adapter, you'll see a lightning bolt on top of the battery icon and the word "Charging" instead of the charge-remaining percentage.

  2. In the second group box you can set your backlighting options:

    • If you want backlighting to turn on automatically after you press a control button or key, or open the display, then select the Turn on backlight when using device check box.

    • If you never want backlighting to turn on automatically, then make sure you haven't selected the automatic backlighting check box.
Note: You can always manually turn on backlighting by pressing MENU Battery & Display-Sidekick iD - Sidekick + JUMP Battery & Display-Sidekick iD - Sidekick .

    • Adjust the backlight brightness using the Brightness slider. Highlight, then select the slider to open it for adjustment. Roll the TRACKBALL right to increase brightness; left to decrease.

    • When backlighting turns on (either automatically or if you turn it on manually), the backlight will stay on for the amount selected in the Turn off after pop-up menu. To open the pop-up menu, roll the TRACKBALL to highlight the menu, then press to open the menu.

      Select from:

      • 15 seconds (default selection)
      • 30 seconds
      • 1 minute
      • 2 minutes
      • 5 minutes

Tip: As long as you press a key or button before the set time elapses, the backlight will stay on.

  3. Once the device goes to sleep (after key guard has been uninterrupted for 30 minutes), the device screen will go blank and the TRACKBALL will blink periodically. To prevent the TRACKBALL from blinking, clear the Conserve battery during sleep check box. Instead, you will see a small moving screensaver that displays date, time, and pending messages. Displaying the screensaver uses more battery power.
